Our Story
Michael Medeiros of Poesia Pottery creates handmade ceramics for the garden and home, celebrating the quirks and character of the raw materials. Each piece is one-of-a-kind (even those that are part of a series), inspired by historic ceramics, the feel of the clay, artistic and cultural interests, and every distinct moment in which the pieces are being created.
A 21st century evolution of the traditional country potter’s craft, Poesia Pottery ceramics are made with a love of history, innovation, and collaboration, with a maker’s passion for building the best vessels and accessories possible for their particular use. Michael, our founder and chief potter, is a poet, photographer, and artist living in Amherst, Massachusetts. He has completed an MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and is a former apprentice at the historic Moravian Pottery and Tile Works in Doylestown, PA.
MIKE’S ARTIST STATEMENT
I work at the intersection of words and artistic imagery, with a deep questioning of perceptive and conceptual experience driving my work. Primarily a poet and ceramist, I also connect photography, printmaking, fiction and narrative non-fiction into multidisciplinary personal work and community collaborations. Mindfulness and the exploration of varied methods of creative understanding and implementation are essential aspects of my practice and teaching.
Flowerpots are an essential part of any home. You should have several on hand for any variety of plant that may stop by to visit (or permanently stay). Cats often enjoy curling up inside them also.
A flowerpot makes all the difference.
